Bohemia Chef: Finalist in Roux Scholarship 2017

It has been revealed that chef, Michael Cruickshank, will compete in the regional final at the 2017 Roux Scholarship competition. Michael is a chef at Michelin starred Bohemia Restaurant in St Helier, Jersey.

Michael will be competing against 17 other chefs from around the country on Thursday 23 March 2017. He will attend the event as one of the 12 finalists at the University of West London, Ealing, where Alain Roux will be on the judging panel. The six other finalists will be competing at University College Birmingham with Michael Roux Jr as a judge.

Before joining Steve Smith’s team at Bohemia, Michael worked in some of the UK’s most renowned restaurants including Michelin Starred restaurants The Montagu Arms, Hampshire and Sienna Restaurant in Dorchester, Dorset. Only the best young talent in the UK are chosen to go through to the regional finals. Michael was one of few shortlisted, amongst a high standard of entries, to battle it out in the finals.

The Bohemia chef was chosen to compete against chefs from top dining establishments including Fera at Claridge’s and The Clove Club. Michael is one of the eight finalists from restaurants outside of London. Past winners include Michelin Star Chefs Andrew Fairlie, the first person to win the Roux Scholarship and now a judge, as well as Sat Baines – who both now have two stars to their name.

The competition will see the chefs creating a recipe to serve four people. They will have 2½ hours to cook the dish as well as a dessert using ingredients from a mystery box given to them on the day.  The judges will be looking for recipes and methods which demonstrate the best balance of creativity, taste, style and practicality in the finished dish. Six winners selected from across the two regional finals will go to the national final, which will take place at Westminster Kingsway College, London on Monday 10 April 2017.
